Let’s talk story about Honolulu and some of the neat things happening here in Hawaii.

Hi, my name is Arlynne Hurley. I am the official spokesperson for the Honolulu Festival in Hawaii.  And trust me, there is plenty to speak about concerning this spectacular event held every March. This "Let's Talk Story" corner is something for you readers to get acclimated to Honolulu, Hawaii before you get here for the Honolulu Festival.

The local people of Hawaii have a way of communicating with each other using
Pidgin English. Pidgin is a creole language based in part on English. Creole is a stable language that originates as a "new" language with features from various sources.  Hawaii Pidgin originated as a form of communication used between native and non-native English speakers in Hawaii, particularly by the immigrants who came to work on the sugar and pineapple plantations over a hundred years ago. Pidgin acquired words and grammar from the Hawaiians, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos and Koreans. "Let's Talk Story" is Pidgin English meaning "let's sit down and visit." And that is exactly what I intend to do couple times a month in this corner. Let's talk story about Honolulu and some of the neat things happening here in Hawaii.
